Parent and child learning

Guidance for Parents and Carers

‘Fflic a Fflac’ gives learners the opportunity to listen to and watch short, fun and engaging videos, which will help them to improve their pronunciation and develop their skills and understanding of the Welsh language. The language patterns and songs in the videos will also present opportunities for you to use Welsh with your child during daily activities around the home, e.g. tidying up, mealtimes, in the garden.

The reading books aim to encourage children to read Welsh independently.  With colourful images and simple sentence patterns, the books have been designed to make reading in Welsh fun! At the back of each book there is a list of the vocabulary in the book and suggested questions to ask your child about the story (including English translations). A perfect opportunity for some bedtime reading with your child!

In order to support second language parents and carers with correct pronunciation, there is a handy ‘read aloud’ feature on the e-Books with audio narrations of the words and phrases within the books. This will also help parents and carers to develop their own Welsh language skills at the same time!

‘Fflic a Fflac’ will enable your child to confidently use familiar Welsh patterns and vocabulary in all situations - indoors and outdoors, both at school and at home.

Guidance for Parents and Carers

‘Fflic a Fflac’ aims to give learners and practitioners increasing confidence to use Welsh as a means of communication on a daily basis. The suggested activities in this guidance provide opportunities to use Welsh across all areas of learning and experience.

‘Fflic a ‘Fflac’ is suitable for nursery groups and schools across Wales and covers a range of familiar contexts and related activities designed to inspire 3–7-year-olds and encourage the use of the Welsh language in day-to-day activities.

The materials should be used in short but regular periods and can be adapted to your own needs. Listening to and watching the videos regularly will improve pronunciation. Practitioners should take every opportunity they can to use the patterns and vocabulary in all situations, both indoors and outdoors.
